If you haven’t studied up on the UXR operation manual, or you are more of a visual learner, check out this clip of how easy the UXR XCHANGE conversion process can be when you want to change the caliber or even the barrel length of your UXR rifle. While calibers that share a common bolt head and magazine will only need a quick barrel swap, the UXR has the ability to step up to larger calibers that require different bolt heads and magazine wells to fully convert. Don't worry, the only tool you will need is an 80 lbs torque wrench but a small punch or even a sturdy pen may come in handy.
How to properly convert the caliber or barrel length of your UXR rifle with only one tool.
HOW TO CONVERT YOUR UXR FROM .223 WYLDE TO .308 WIN
- First, verify the rifle is empty and safe to handle. Remove the magazine and ensure the chamber is empty.
- Fold the stock halfway to rest the rifle off the bench. This makes it easier to access the rear takedown pin.
- Use a punch—or even an empty cartridge casing, Allen wrench, or pen—to push the captured rear takedown pin.
- Remove the fire control group and set it aside.
- Next, remove the retention spring, slide out the bolt carrier group, and detach the magwell.
- To release the barrel, take a wrench and loosen each of the three trunnion screws one and a half turns. Slide the barrel out and set it aside.
- Take your .308 barrel, identified by the single dot marking on the bottom. Carefully slide it into the trunnion, ensuring it seats fully and sits flush with the chamber.
NOTE: An improperly seated barrel will result in unreliable operation.
- Torque the three trunnion screws back down to 80 inch-pounds. The screws do not require a sequence when tightening.
- Next, take the .308 magwell, identified by the single dot on the side, and slide it into place along the grooves.
- For the bolt carrier group, remove the retaining pin using a punch. Slide out the firing pin and buffer spring, then tip the carrier to release the cam pin.
- Take your .308 bolt, identified by the single dot on the side, and align it with the cam pin slot. Insert it carefully into the carrier.
- Reinsert the firing pin and spring into the carrier, ensuring the retaining pin locks back into place.
- Reassemble the rifle by reversing the steps: attach the magwell, slide in the bolt carrier group, replace the retention spring, and secure the fire control group.
